Workwear & Household Laundry in Hamworthy, Poole

Hamworthy sits on its own peninsula of about three square kilometres on the west side of Poole Harbour, between Holes Bay, Lytchett Bay and Upton, joined to the town centre by Poole Bridge and, since March 2012, the Twin Sails Bridge. It is a working part of Poole: the Port of Poole ferry terminal and cargo quays are here, along with the docks at Lower Hamworthy, the industrial area at Lake Side and the Royal Marines base at Rockley Park. So alongside the family wash, work clothes are a natural part of what we collect here.

Where in Hamworthy we collect

We cover the whole of Hamworthy across BH15 and BH16 — Central Hamworthy along Blandford Road, Lower Hamworthy by the docks, the Harbourside homes around Cobbs Quay, Lake Side, Rockley Park and the Turlin Moor estate. Upton and Poole town centre across the bridge are on the same rounds, so a boundary address is covered too.

Hamworthy is older than it looks: there was an Iron Age settlement here before the Romans took it over in the first century and built a road inland from the harbour, and it stayed a separate parish until it was merged with Poole on 9 November 1905. Hamworthy station opened in 1847 as Poole Junction and still has trains to London Waterloo, and the 1st Hamworthy Scout Group has records going back to 1908.

What gets collected most around here

One collection can take two kinds of load. Work clothes — trousers, polo shirts, fleeces, overalls and uniform shirts — are washed and dried ready for the next shift; the household wash of clothes, towels, bed linen and duvets is washed, dried and folded. Shirts can be ironed, and anything delicate can go to dry cleaning in the same bag.
