Branksome sits on Poole’s eastern edge, between Parkstone and the Bournemouth boundary at Westbourne. Until the 1890s it was mostly heath and woodland; it became an urban district in 1894, joined Poole in 1905, and most of its houses date from the Edwardian years and the decades before the Second World War. Homes of that age tend to have tall windows and heavy curtains that are awkward to wash at home, so we collect them with the rest of the laundry.

We cover Branksome across BH12 and BH13 — the streets around Branksome station, the Branksome end of Ashley Road and the roads leading down towards Branksome Park. Parkstone, Alder Hills, Branksome Park, Penn Hill and Westbourne over the Bournemouth boundary are on the same rounds, so an address on either side of the line is covered.

Branksome station, on the main line between Weymouth and London Waterloo, is the easiest landmark. Local history has one unusual resident too: Lord Ventry, the airship pioneer, owned a large house and land here.
