Wash, Dry & Fold Laundry in Somerford, Christchurch

Somerford takes its name from a ford over the River Mude that could only be crossed in summer — roughly where Somerford Roundabout is today. The manor is recorded from 1140, but most of what stands now came much later: Christchurch Airfield opened here in 1926, and the council estate that forms much of Somerford was built in the 1950s. Family homes on an estate like this fill a steady basket of everyday washing, which is exactly what wash, dry and fold is for.

We cover the whole of Somerford across BH23 — the estate roads either side of Somerford Road, the streets around the schools and the business parks near the old airfield. Mudeford, Stanpit, Purewell, Hoburne and Highcliffe are on the same rounds, so a boundary address is covered too.

The old airfield is part of local memory: it served the RAF and the US Army Air Forces in the Second World War, and the aircraft makers Airspeed and de Havilland worked here before it closed in 1966. Today BAE Systems is the big employer, and Somerford Roundabout is the usual reference point for directions.
