Westbourne sits between Bournemouth town centre and the Poole boundary, built around the grade II listed Victorian arcade of 1884–85 that links Poole Road and Seamoor Road. If you are new to the area, the landmarks worth knowing are the Victorian arcade itself, Alum Chine with its twenty-minute walk down to the sea, and the Skerryvore memorial garden on Alum Chine Road. That was the site of the house where Robert Louis Stevenson lived with his wife Fanny between 1885 and 1887; the building was destroyed in a bombing raid in November 1940 and a garden with a stone model of the Skerryvore lighthouse was laid out in its place in the 1950s.
