Tuckton is the riverside corner of BH6 where Southbourne meets the River Stour, grown up around Tuckton Bridge — rebuilt in ferro-concrete in 1905, then the longest bridge of its kind in Britain and the first to carry trams. It is a quiet residential area, with the Tea Gardens and the summer ferries to Christchurch Quay and Mudeford at the water’s edge. Laundry here is mostly the household wash plus the good clothes that need dry cleaning, and we collect both from the door.

Where in Tuckton we collect

We cover the whole of Tuckton and the surrounding BH6 streets — Tuckton Road and its shops, the roads down to the riverside and the Tea Gardens, and out along Wick Lane towards Wick. Southbourne, Iford, Pokesdown and Christchurch across the bridge are on the same rounds, so an address on either bank of the Stour is covered.

The bridge is the landmark everyone uses. Tuckton Tea Gardens, open since 1903, sits beside it, and a short walk away on Saxonbury Road stood Tuckton House, where from 1900 to 1908 Tolstoy’s literary agent Vladimir Chertkov ran the Free Age Press, printing English translations of Tolstoy.
