Muscliff is a suburb on the north-eastern side of Bournemouth, in BH9, between Redhill, Moordown and Strouden Park, with the Stour valley along its northern edge. It is an old name: Muscliff was one of the tithings of the Liberty of Westover long before Bournemouth grew, and the road now called Wimborne Road was first laid out in 1805 as Muscliff Road. Today its streets are lined with homes, with Muscliff Primary School, The Epiphany School and a row of shops at Tolpuddle Gardens, and the ward’s largest employer, the Castlepoint Shopping Centre, is just along Castle Lane West — which is why this page covers both workwear and the family wash.

We cover the whole of Muscliff across BH9 3 — the roads off Broadway Lane and Castle Lane West, the shops and medical centre around Tolpuddle Gardens, the streets by Muscliff Park and Shillingstone Drive, and Throopside Avenue out towards Throop. Redhill, Moordown, Strouden Park and Throop are on the same rounds, so a boundary address is covered too.

Many street names here come from Dorset and New Forest villages — Tolpuddle, Shillingstone, Spetisbury, Fritham, Godshill. Holy Epiphany Church, built of red brick in 1953 for Muscliff and upper Moordown, has an organ made in 1879 for a church in Dundee and moved here whole in 1954. And it was William West, the farmer at Muscliff Farm, who petitioned the enclosure commissioners for the local commoners: 425 acres were set aside as a result, and they are now Meyrick Park, Queen’s Park, King’s Park, Redhill Common and Seafield Gardens. To the north, Kingfisher Barn and the Stour Valley Local Nature Reserve lead down to the river.
