Boscombe runs from the Victorian shopping streets around the Royal Arcade and the Sovereign Centre down through Boscombe Chine Gardens to the pier, opened in 1889 and named Pier of the Year in 2010. Many of the big villas near the cliff became guest houses and later flats, and plenty of seafront apartments are now let to holidaymakers. That turns over a lot of bed linen and towels every week — exactly the load we collect, wash and bring back.

Where in Boscombe we collect

We cover the whole of Boscombe on both sides of the BH1 and BH5 line — Christchurch Road through the pedestrian precinct, the roads around the chine and along the Overcliff, and the streets up towards Kings Park and Dean Court. Springbourne, East Cliff, Pokesdown and Southbourne are on the same rounds, so a flat on the boundary is covered too.

For directions, most people use the Sovereign Centre and the bus station beside it, the O2 Academy in the old Grand Theatre building, or the pier at the bottom of the chine. Shelley Park, laid out around the house Sir Percy Shelley bought in 1849, marks the eastern side towards Southbourne.
