Laundry & Dry Cleaning Collection in Kinson, Bournemouth

Kinson is a former village on Bournemouth’s northern edge, recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 and part of the town only since 1 April 1931 — it nearly went to Poole instead, until a vigorous campaign by residents saw it added to Bournemouth, with the county boundary moved to fit. At the 2011 census its two wards had nearly 20,000 residents, living in the old village and in the 20th-century estates named after the parish’s hamlets, such as East Howe, West Howe and Ensbury. Kinson is some three and a half miles from the town centre, so one collection that takes both the washing and the dry cleaning saves two trips.

Where in Kinson we collect

We cover the whole of Kinson across BH10 and BH11 — the village green and Kinson Hub on Wimborne Road, the streets around Kinson Common, the roads down towards St Andrew’s Church and Millhams, and the estates of East Howe and West Howe. Ensbury Park, Northbourne and Bear Cross are on the same rounds, so a boundary address is covered too.

The village green beside Kinson Hub still has a set of stocks; the older green where cricket was played is now bungalows, and the name Wicket Road keeps the memory. St Andrew’s Church has a smuggling story: Isaac Gulliver’s men hid contraband in its tower, and the rope marks can still be seen in the sandstone. Gulliver’s Tavern, long known as the Dolphin Inn, is named after him, and Kinson Common, a Local Nature Reserve and SSSI, lies just to the south-west.

What gets collected most around here

Here one collection can take both halves of the job. The household wash — clothes, towels, bed linen and duvets too big for a home machine — is washed, dried and folded; work suits, coats, school blazers and dresses for an occasion go to dry cleaning and come back cleaned and pressed. Shirts can be ironed too, and everything returns to the door together.
