School Uniform & Home Laundry in Ensbury Park, Bournemouth

Ensbury Park is a mainly residential suburb in the north of Bournemouth, in BH10, and it takes in the Slades Farm estate. The name is younger than it sounds: it comes from the Saxon hamlet of Ensbury a mile or so to the north, but it was the agents A. J. Abbott & Sons who coined “Ensbury Park” in the 1930s, when the land of Ensbury Farm was sold for housing. Two secondary schools stand side by side here — Glenmoor Academy for girls on Beswick Avenue and Winton Academy for boys on Winton Way — with primary schools close by, which is why school uniform comes first on this page.

Where in Ensbury Park we collect

We cover the whole of Ensbury Park across BH10 — Columbia Road, the main route through the district and home to the smallest library in the borough, the roads around Ensbury Avenue and Beswick Avenue, the Slades Farm estate, and the Redhill end where Columbia Road meets Boundary Road and Ensbury Park Road. Redhill, Northbourne, East Howe and Moordown are on the same rounds, so a boundary address is covered too.

On the Kinson side of the district, the 1920s brought a racecourse that doubled as an aerodrome: horse racing ran from 17 April 1925 to 11 June 1928, the ground hosted air races as “Bournemouth Aerodrome”, and fatal crashes at the 1927 Whitsun meeting hastened its end. The grandstand came down in 1934 and houses went up on the land. The Ensbury Park Hotel on the corner of Columbia Road and Boundary Road, approved in December 1924, closed as a pub in 2014; since 2015 a Co-op has had the ground floor, with flats above and the old hotel sign still on the wall.
