Canford Heath grew from 1963 onwards into what is often called one of the largest housing estates in Europe — about 14,400 people at the 2021 census, in family homes around the schools and the Asda local centre. Beside it lies the heath itself, a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1988 and home to sand lizards, smooth snakes and Dartford warblers. Family homes mean a lot of washing, and BH17 is now the busiest postcode on our round.

Where in Canford Heath we collect

We cover the whole estate and the rest of BH17 — the residential roads around the Asda and the local shops, the streets near Magna Academy and Poole Grammar School, and out towards Tower Park. Creekmoor, Oakdale, Waterloo and Broadstone are on the same rounds, so a house on the edge of the heath is covered as well.

If you are giving directions, the Asda that opened in 1980 is the usual starting point, followed by the Haymoor and Pilot pubs, the two big schools and the Tower Park leisure complex next door.

What gets collected most around here

With so many family homes, the round here is mostly family washing: school uniforms and PE kit, the week’s clothes, towels and bed linen, and duvets that will not fit a home machine. Work shirts and uniforms can be pressed and returned on hangers, and coats or suits for dry cleaning travel in the same collection.
